Adder’s Fork interview

Hi Marko! How have you been?
Hello, I’m Marko and thank you for the interview! I’ve been doing fine, since the new EP is about to be released!

Can you talk to us more about your latest stuff with such interesting title The Individualist?
Well, „The Individualist“ is definitely my strongest offering yet! Expect a heavy album with varied guitar riffs rooted in many different genres of metal, mixed with distinct basslines, rock soloing and melodies straight out of the rocking 80s! Clean, post-punk/new wave-styled vocals dominate, supported by some harsher, more extreme vox as well. There are many things going on here, so expect a CD that demands a sturdy repeat button on your player of choice (so I hope ;-))!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this album? Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Lyrical inspiration can be found everywhere around us, in wicked times like these. Mankind is bound to fail, the question that remains is – „how long do we have left until we have finally wiped ourselves off the planet’s surface?“ Some think they are better than others, but ultimately, everyone takes part in ruining our Earth everyday – me – you – everyone. No matter how good the intentions, in the end we’re all doomed. Some may find this view depressing, but I think you just have to try to find your own niche in all the chaos of this modern word. That’s been the leitmotif in my writing for this EP.

Any plans to release a new video for some track?
Yes! Apart from the official lyric video for „Witchgrove Mountain“ (check YouTube!) I’ve decided to create a music video for the title track of „The Individualist“ EP. I’m not rich and my budget as a solo-musician is not exactly astronomical, but I’m sure I’ve managed to get a lot out of it, which is due to the fine filming assistance of my girlfriend, as well as aid coming from an aspiring director and video-artist from abroad.

How was the recording and writing process?
With the advantages of a little home studio, I’ve always had the opportunity to record raw ideas straight into my PC, which helped immensely in creating an abundance of riffs and melodies which I started to filter in later stages. The remaining parts grew into tracks over the course of the last 18 to 24 months and after discarding the lesser ones and taking some time to refine the others, the EP took its final form this summer.

What was it like to work without label?
I didn’t want anyone to interfere with my artistic vision, I wanted this EP to be completed without any outside influence, apart from visual artists for cover and video work. Not that there aren’t labels who don’t push you into anything, but I also wanted to have a feel for everything that needs to be done from start to finish, in order to get a professional release out. From the first ideas to the final mixing and mastering up to the finished CD and additionally the choosing of a promo firm – I wanted everything done my way, so I could understand the whole process better.

How much each musician influence the album?
Since Adder’s Fork is only me, all influences are coming from my hands and mouth, for better and for worse 😉

Any plans to hit the road?
Adder’s Fork is ultimately a studio project, but maybe not forever. Musicians with similar interests are hard to find by around my area….so no touring possible at the moment.

What else is happening next in Adder’s Fork’s world?
Well, the next step is the completion of said first music video for „The Individualist“. The EP release date is November 10th, in digital and physical form, with limited free Pro-Printed CD-Rs available for those, who still want real CDs! For now, please check out the lyric video for the new song „Witchgrove Mountain“ on YouTube! Thanks again for the interview!
