Since 2015, Danish death metal magi Apparatus have used their esoteric time signatures and third-eye-gouging riffs to call forth ancient evil from unknown depths. Now, a week prior to its release, we are privileged to hear what those efforts have brought from the darkness beyond this mortal realm.
According to their press sheet, Apparatus’ sophomore album, Yonder Yawns the Universe was initiated and formed by “rolling dice and throwing decks of cards on the floor.” In this way, “the band developed their own take on twelve-tone techniques and aleatorian composition in order to elaborate their dense and dissonant sound while expanding and dissolving the sense of tonality.” Recorded at Winnem Sound and Djævlesound, Yonder Yawns the Universe is a mind-ripping journey in eight parts.
