Miss Key interview

Hi! What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?

I think the most suitable is contemporary classic, if to say about mood of my music – it’s mostly dark melancholic music.

Are you a member of any music organizations?

Not yet, but I’m already thinking about joining GEMA, because I want to feel safe as a composer.

What can you tell me about your instrument? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever’s available? What made you choose the instrument you have now? Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color preference?

I can play each piano I see, but for work I prefer Roland e-pianos. To my hands and ears it’s the best. Now I have not expensive one, but totally satisfied with it.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?<

Last year (2017) I’ve played 9 gigs, including big festivals: WGT in Leipzig and Gogol fest in Kiev. At this moment I have no upcoming shows, but from new year I’m starting to work with booking agent, so I hope to have a lot in 2018.

Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you have a set play list?

I always perform Amon Amarth covers, and ALL people love them, even when they have no idea, that it was death metal song before 🙂 Also I love to play Game of Thrones waltz-style cover.

Could you briefly describe the music-making process? What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?

As I can rehearse in headphones, I make it when I have mood, even late at night. And sometimes I’m going to rehearsing rooms with grand piano to play at real instrument.

What has been your biggest challenge? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

To be honest, me myself was the biggest challenge. I will try to explain. I never had music education and never was trained as a professional pianist, but at the same time music was always in my life, i composed music since childhood. But never – serious. Only like a hobby. Fears inside me blocked even thoughts about professional musician career. So. the biggest challenge was to fight all this inner demons and and I decided to take a chance. And now you see – everything is going very good.

What’s your ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune?

Sure, I want to compose music for Hollywood, not less.

How can fans-to-be gain access to your music?

Easiest way is to visit this link on my site http://www.misskey.rocks/katarina-gubanova-download-music/

But also, my tracks are published everywhere, I mean Spotify, Youtube, Itunes, So, just search my name – Katarina Gubanova.

Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support?

Ahh, so many good people, list will be too long, so I just want to say, that my team is the best.

Any last words?

Stay tuned and listen to good music.
