Not to say we told you so, but your good friends at Decibel have been pimping Godthrymm hard since virtually the moment the band formed just two years ago. And with good reason! Founded by guitarist/vocalist Hamish Glencross (ex-Solstice, ex-My Dying Bride, ex-Vallenfyre) and drummer Shaun Taylor-Steels (ex-Anathema, ex-My Dying Bride), but not content to coast on doom pedigree alone, the band shuffled through early lineup issues, self-financed a pair excellent of EPs and regularly gigged in their West Yorkshire, England stomping grounds. Yet they curiously remained free agents… until today, as Godthrymm are not officially members of the revered Profound Lore Records stable.
“The debut Godthrymm album will be the tenth original studio album I’ve been a part of, yet it feels like my first considering the importance this album has for me,” Glencross tells Decibel. “Every ounce of my personal musical soul is reflected in this album, and as such it was incredibly important to work with a label with integrity, commitment and a true love and passion for art in music. Albert [Mudrian] from Decibel magazine suggested I speak to Profound Lore Records [founder Chris Bruni], and it made such perfect sense; this label has a wonderful catalogue of amazing releases, featuring some of my most favorite albums of recent years. It didn’t take much discussion between Chris and myself to decide that we are perfectly suited to bring our efforts together to bring you an album of impassioned epic honest heavy doom metal. We start recording in August with Nathan Bailey at Toolmakers Studio, and artwork shall once again be provided by our dear friend and previous collaborator Brian D’Agosta. The only challenge now is going to be deciding which songs will make the album; we appear to have really stepped up a gear with the writing!”
Expect an early 2020 release date. Also expect to hear Decibel yapping in your ear about it long before then.
