You know that I’m a cranky parrot? Well, this time around you motherpeckers should be nice and refreshed after the Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest. So, you know what? I’m in a good mood… so HERE WE GO…
I enter this review with some trepidation. I mean, I LOVE Possessed, they kick ass. So, they are back with a new record after like 689178 years. It’s called Revelations of Oblivion on Nuclear Blast, and it’s… wait for it… PRETTY PECKING GREAT! This has all the ingredients to be a disaster… many things could go wrong here, but they don’t. Vocalist Jeff Becerra sounds great (and strong) and the backing band REALLY nails the old-school vibe of the band. Most of these reunion jams usually leave this birdbrain pretty flat, but honestly this has a lot of the fury and fire of a new band, and is done A LOT better than a lot of younger bands. The one complaint (and it’s a minor one) is that the drums feel very… new, very modern. Anyway, this rips.
8 Fucking Pecks
Denver’s Call of the Void is back at it with a new release called Buried in Light on Translation Loss. Finally, these guys have the sound and recording they’ve always needed. I’m a longtime fan of this band, but they’ve never been captured super well on recordings. This is a nasty piece of work, part noise rock, part thrash, part post hardcore, part whatever-the-peck ever they want to throw in there. A concept album about cult leaders and well.. cult leader things. This thing, moves and shifts and the noise added (ahem) definitely helps the over vibe of despair on this. Pecking cool!
8 Fucking Pecks
Anyone that knows me knows I am a fan of noise rock, or noisy rock. Glassing is kicking my feathered ass here with their new one Spotted Horse but the label Brutal Panda. Pigeon holing this band (like a lot of noise rock acts) is tough, drone-y, scream-y, noise-y, blast-y and just generally messed up is the best way to describe this. Equal part chaos and beauty, this is no Jesus Lizard clone. Peck this band out.
7 Fucking Pecks.
Well, that’s all folks… Waldo out!
