Two years after their second EP, Reports from Oblivion, New York City sludge crew False Gods have returned with another EP. At just two tracks, The Serpent & the Ladder is the shortest False Gods release to date. Both “The Serpent” and “The Ladder” are post-metal takes on sludge, simultaneously recalling the likes of Neurosis and Crowbar, plus younger bands like YLVA.
Despite its short length, The Serpent & the Ladder goes many places, just as readily offering shimmering, psychedelic textures as it does crushing sludge, post-rock crescendos and more.
“We are very excited to release our newest EP, The Serpent and the Ladder,” False Gods tell Decibel. “We feel that it is our most melodic, psychedelic and heaviest release to date. It was recorded at Suffolk Recording Studios by Keith Moore and mixed and mastered by the great Alan Douches at West West Side Music in NYC. Hope you dig it.”
