Mutanter interview

Good day dear MUTANTER band! What’s the meaning of your band’s title and why you have changed band name from original Limited Mutanter? Is it something like a new band’s conception after long period hiatus? What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before?

Hello. Story about name changing, that we had thought that starting new step in an artwork. Everything, everytime, each moment changes, evolves. The changes provides new changes, step by step… mutates.

What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?

Oh, previously it was, oddly enough, death metal, but what the genre of our music now, some type or subgenre nor none of one. We just play music that we can say: “Yes, it cool for us. Can we do it better?”. Someone of us says Slayer and Morbid Angel has influences, someone says is Immolation and etc. But, really, we play music what we like to play for us, if someone else like our music, that is cool doubly.

How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?

Most of us know each other from 80s. Mutanter was formed by lead guitarist Arthur Meburnutov in 1991 and still, Dmitro Komar in the band since 1993 – drums, also in the band since 1994 Vitaly Medvedev – bass, Andriy Gordiyenko since 2016 as a vocalist, in the second half of 2018 appeared Alexander Zbruev as a guitarist.

When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music together?

Maybe, it is the wish to create something new, something that none of us didn’t heard. To make something, that will inspired you to doing better yourself, environment or listen just for fun .

Are you a member of any music organizations?

Yeah, someone of us earlier or now playing in another projects.

What can you tell me about your instruments? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever’s available? What made you choose the instruments you have now? Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color preference?

The “Tama” drums, “Paiste” cymbals are for the drummer. The guitarists use “Vigier”, “Ibanez”. Amplifiers from “Engl”. The bassist uses the “MusicMan” bass and the “Ampeg” amplifier. The vocalist prefers “Sennheiser”.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

At now we had a few concert only. But, really coolest, was a performance on “Ragnard Reborn” in 22 of June this year. It was really cool fest. We have a few concerts in 2019 already. Now we concentrated on the creating of a new album. But, who knows, maybe in this year will be some concerts.

Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?

No, we didn’t play any cover yet. Playlist for each show different.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?

Music an almost all wrote by Arthur Meburnutov, some parts from Vitaly Medvedev. Lyrics by Andriy Gordiyenko.
We hope that our music will inspire people to thinking about real problems. In the digital era it so easy seeing what you want, but don’t see uglier sides. There are were so many terrifying and ugliest things in our history, like species, that all this “picking in remains” that so typical for Death metal… common, maybe enough? That is our main strategy, that lyrics must be with meaning, with ideas which should make you think about serious things, really important.

Could you briefly describe the music-making process?

Yeah, sure. We are get together and start play, someone has ideas, those ideas can be cool or not. We are every time try to create what will be cooler for us than previously.

What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?

Yes, each week.

How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?

Hm, hard to say, but we think that each of us gave some part of his vision, passion, minds

What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

At the moment in, oddly enough, it is the release of our first album. It took so much time, so many obstacles was… but we did it.

What’s your ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune?

Ultimate direction is a creating cooler music than we already did for us. And, obviously, who would not like a fortune? We are not hypocrites, even more, we have song devoted to theme of hypocrisy, is called “Ode fo Janus”. But first of all – music for us, like process, like harmony condition.

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

If you really want it, that you do it. Everything is simple.

How can fans-to-be gain access to your music?

Ebay, Soundcloud…

Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support?

Hard to say.

Any last words?

Sure, thanks to all you people who listening us, reading lyrics or just headbangs at our concerts. We really appreciate this, thank you all and thank you “Metalmilitia” for this interview.
